Until the 1920s, the traditional view of women was that they were supposed to marry young, begin having children, and then devote the rest of their lives to raising those children and taking care of their families.
Women were not supposed to go out and pursue men.
Women were not supposed to go to college or get a job.
Women were not supposed to go out clubs or bars to socialize.
Women were simply supposed to be the caretakers of their husbands and children.
